Songs of Praise
The St Mary’s Singers from St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney present Songs of Praise; Elgar’s Te Deum and other sacred choral works. This choir is the men and women's volunteer choir of St Mary’s who sing once a month in the Cathedral. They are directed by Simon Nieminski, the Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music. The concert’s centrepiece is Elgar’s towering opus 34. The Te Deum and Benedictus were written for the Three Choirs Festival at Hereford Cathedral in 1897 where it had its premiere, hence the image of Hereford’s nave on the concert poster. |
