About The Event
In 2023 Michael released “Not My Fault,” a powerful collection of raspy folk-rock songs that feel a little like a dive bar singalong—and a little like you snuck a beer into church. Recorded here in Huntsville with his son Gus (a stellar songwriter himself) on drums, the album features co-producer Steven Jackson on bass, and an outstanding line up of folks sitting in.Before Jason Isbell and the Avett Brothers were musical touchstones, many of us first heard what would later become known as “Americana” from singer-songwriters like Alabama’s Michael Goldsmith. It was the mid 90s. Grunge had imprinted a little bit of grit and angst, even on folks who grew up listening to Hank Williams-style gospel and REM's jangly college rock. Right then, as Americana was being born you could catch Michael on stages throughout the Southeast—evolving alongside acts like Son Volt and the Jayhawks.Today, you'll find Michael Goldsmith, the Episcopal priest, leading song and sermon behind the pulpit in Huntsville. But he's never stopped writing or performing.
